Zachary John Zabawa

Zachary John Zabawa was reunited with the Lord on March 15th, 2025. He was the beloved son of Mark and Beverly Zabawa and the younger brother of Esme. He will be greatly missed.

Zach was born in Petoskey, Michigan on July 26th, 2000, and raised in his childhood home on May Street in Charlevoix. After being diagnosed with Autism at the age of 3, Zach attended the Char-Em Taylor school in Petoskey, Boyne City, and East Jordan where he made friends, learned, and grew with other special needs children.

In late 2022, Zach relocated to the Flint area, where his circle of friends and family grew exponentially. Zach excelled academically at his school, the Marion D. Crouse Instructional Center, and he eventually advanced to the Elmer A Knopf Learning Center to finish off his last few months of studies.

Zach loved being outside. He would go for bike rides with his dad, jump on the trampoline with his sister, swing on his custom-built swing set, and swim in the backyard pool. He had an insatiable passion for food, and adored listening to music during long car rides with his mom.

Those who knew Zach will remember his talent for making a memorable first impression; his energy and infectious laughter filled the hearts of anyone who had the pleasure of connecting with him. Although he was nonverbal, he had the ability to radiate love and affection in his own extraordinary way. He was a beam of light that made everything and everyone around him brighter and more beautiful. He was gregarious, determined, and free-spirited. He was a son, a brother, and a friend.

These were a few of his favorite things.

Although we may no longer be blessed to share the Earth with his physical presence, Zach’s spirit will remain with us as a reminder of all the wonder and grace that this world contains. His memory is a gift upon each and every person whose life he touched.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Charlevoix, Michigan at 11 AM. A funeral mass will follow at 12 PM with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating.
