Wilmer L. Hurley, 88, of Bellaire, died peacefully, Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at home. He was born January 12, 1921, in Silas Creek, North Carolina, the son of Wilson and Mary Margaret (Rose). As a young man, at the age of 15 he went to work in the CCC Camps in Oregon. On April 16, 1949, in Wyandotte, he married Helen Wente. They made their home and raised their children there. They retired to Bellaire in 1984. Wilmer was a member of the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church and the American Legion of Bellaire. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II. Wilmer enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen, his children Kenneth Hurley of Wyandotte and Kathy (Paul) Trumble of Bellaire, grandchildren Patti, Peg, Paul Jr., and Peter and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Jane Hurley and 18 siblings. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 19, at Eleven a.m. at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Carl Q. Litchfield officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. The family will receive friends Friday, September 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
