Wilma Jean Shafer, 75, of Echo Township, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.
She was born April 13, 1937 in Bay City, Michigan to William and Marie (Threehouse) Rooker.
On February 7, 1964 she married Willard Shafer in East Jordan. They made their home in Echo Township.
Jean enjoyed homemaking, cooking, baking, gardening, canning, fishing, hunting, picking rocks, crocheting, knitting, and being in nature.
Surviving are her husband Bill; children Edward Pinion of East Jordan, Catherine (Robert) Jedlicka of Kingsley, Oneda (Martin) Schuller of Charlevoix, Neila (Solon) Barnes of Charlevoix, Jacob (Teresa) Shafer of Central Lake, Coralee Shafer of East Jordan; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sisters Thelma Beadle of Hillman, Marilyn Gibson of Harrisville, Beverly (John) Hatch of South Houston, Texas, and Leon (Shirley) Beal of Pleasant Valley. She was preceded in death by infant children Anthony Arnold Pinion and Roseann Louise Shafer; and siblings Elvira Pinder, Patricia Hosler, Arnold Shalda, Juanita Shalda, Bonnie Lawrence, Tony Shalda, and Earl Shalda.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church with the Rev. Celia M. Hastings officiating. Friends may call at the church from noon until the time of the service. Inurnment will be in Dunsmore Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
