Wilma J. Hughes, 86, of Mancelona, died Friday, January 30, 2015 at Kalkaska Long Term Care.
She was born April 20, 1928 to William and Bernice (Stout) Morningstar in Cedar Springs. She lived most of her life in Mancelona but as a child moved with her family to many lumber camps following her father's employment.
On August 8 1947 she married Junior Max Hughes in Mancelona where they made their home. Mr. Hughes died in February of 1993.
Her passion was reading any and every mystery book she could find. She also enjoyed spending time with her very large extended family, gardening, knitting, sewing and crossword puzzles.
Surviving are her children William (Zina) Hughes of Mancelona, Kenneth Cecil (Robin) Hughes of Kalamazoo, John Leonard Hughes of Bay City; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; siblings Gertrude DePeel of Mancelona, Joan (Robert) Carlson of Grand Rapids, Linda (Harley) VanHoose of Greenville, Ralph (Chris) Morningstar of Kentucky, Joyce Spencer of Holly, Janice Tingley of Mancelona, Catherine (Louie) Scholl of Mancelona, James (Judy) Morningstar of Oklahoma; and sister-in-law Jane Morningstar of Oscoda. She was preceded in death by her husband, sons David and Walter, daughter Barbara, three grandchildren, sisters Shirley Orman and husband Robert, Patricia Tipton and husband Sherman, brothers Grant Morningstar and William Morningstar.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, February 2, at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth with the Rev. Celia M. Hastings officiating. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
