William Scadin

William Scadin

William L. Scadin, 78, of Central Lake, passed away on October 17, 2014 at his home. Bill was born on July 23, 1936, in Traverse City, the son of Leo and Marvel (Moore) Scadin. Bill served in the US Air Force for 27 years before retiring in 1983. During his time in the military he served in the Vietnam War, the Philippines, Turkey and Iran. He was a life member of the Central Lake Torch Post VFW #6985 where he served as commander and chaplain for many years and held two state officer jobs. He was a long time member of the Central Lake United Methodist Church, drove school bus for Central Lake Public Schools and was employed by Mortensen Funeral Homes for many years. On July 20, 1957, in Central Lake, he married Karen M. Thier who survives. Also surviving are a son Doug Scadin of Omaha, NE, a half brother, Gary Harrison of Germany, a sister Sally (Lloyd) Beebe of Kalkaska, two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Armould of Central Lake, Mary Thier of Monroe, OH, two brothers-in-law, Gene (Judy) Thier of Central Lake, Denny (Pat) Thier of Central Lake as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother James Scadin, his parents and a brother-in-law Alan Thier. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment with military honors will follow in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Lake United Methodist Church or to a Little Help from My Friends.
