William M. "Bill" Hughes

William M. “Bill” Hughes, age 73, of Mancelona passed away April 24, 2023, surrounded by family.

He was born the son of Junior and Wilma (Morningstar) Hughes, on June 17, 1949, in Petoskey, Michigan.

Bill was an all-around family man who loved spending time with children and grandchildren.  He cherished the time he was able to spend with his wife Zina until her passing.  Bill loved to tinker on machines, and in the workshop. He was devoted to his country and served in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Zina; son, William "Billy".

William is survived by his children, Connie (Chris) Thompson of Mancelona, Michigan, Kristina (Addam) Rosenberg of Mancelona, Michigan, Melissa Christenson of Otsego, Michigan, James (Judi Moon) Hughes of Manton, Michigan, Nancy (Ray) Szymoniak of Kingsley, Michigan, and Christopher (Jessica VanBrande) Hughes of Bellaire, Michigan; grandchildren, Destiny, Alex (Avery), Annabelle, Justen, Lincoln, Ruby, Autumn (Dustin), Lucus, Gavin, Daniel, Ethan, Alycia, Santiago, Morgan, Adrian, Jaden, Connor, Emersyn, and Madison.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., with visitation beginning at 11:00 until the time of service, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.

Graveside services with military honors will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the American Legion Post 264, 9850 S. Front Street., Mancelona, MI 49659 or Hospice of Michigan, 989 Spaulding SE, Ada, MI 49301.
