William "Jack" Buckwheat, Sr., 95, of Mancelona, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility surrounded by his family. Jack was born on July 17, 1915 in Barryton, MI., the son of John and Lucille Buckwheat. He loved fishing, hunting, and feeding his birds. He worked for Gulf and Western as a foreman for many years. Most of all, his pride and joy was his family. He is survived by five children, Bill Buckwheat Jr. of Mancelona, MI., Jason (Betty) Buckwheat of Ocala, FL., Joanna Allen of Mancelona, MI., Michael (Sondra) Buckwheat of Rapid City, MI., and Braverd (Donna) Buckwheat of Hendersonville, NC; 2 step-daughters, Cheryl Buckwheat of Mancelona, MI., and Beverly (Mike) McReynolds of Muskegon, MI; brother, Jason Buckwheat of Durrant, MI; sister, Barbara Rincey of Shepherd, MI; twelve grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Glenda Knott of Bellaire, MI., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Milton Buckwheat and a special granddaughter, Angela Buckwheat and step-son, George Sparks. The service will be private.
