Wilbur Walling

Wilbur W. Walling, 94, of Alden, went to be with his heavenly father on Sunday morning, November 14, 2010. Wilbur was born on November 3, 1916 in Clair county, MI., the son of Ray and Ella (Bailiff) Walling. Wilbur and his wife, Hazel (Loose) Walling lived in Alden for 64 years. Wilbur worked as a mortician at the beginning of his adult life, then he became a cherry and apple farmer and lastly he was a carpenter. He was a member of Alden United Methodist church for several years as he was very active in the church. He was involved in many organizations such as the school and church board, grange, township clerk, fire chief, boy scouts leader and several other things. He is survived by two daughters, Jean Hoxie of Interlochen, and Judith (Dennis) Denoyer of Lake Leelenau; one brother, Ned Walling of Flint; fourteen grandchildren; sixty two great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great-grand children; and several nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel; and a son-in-law, Richard Hoxie. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Alden United Methodist Church with Pastor LeRoy Sutfin officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 am until the service begins at 11am. Interment will follow in Helena Township Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, November 19, 2010 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Home.
