Weldon Stover

Weldon "Smokey" Stover Jr, 83 of Bellaire, died June 19, 2017 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.

He was born May 16, 1934 in Lansing, the son of Weldon Sr. and Lucy (Fulahaber) Stover and after high school graduation he joined and proudly served in the US Army.

Smokey was a dedicated employee at Michigan State University as a grounds keeper for over 30 years before retirement. He enjoyed wood working and being social. He especially enjoyed reading and learning about history and all aspects of the military.

On September 1, 1962 in Lansing, he married Marilyn I. Ayers, who survives. Also surviving are his children Michael Nelson of Gaylord, and Gregory Nelson of West Palm Beach, FL, his grandchildren Nicole (Aaron) Walworth, Andrew Nelson, Benjamin (Dusty) Nelson, Natalie Nelson, Jessica Nelson, great grandchildren Gideon, Benjamin Jr., Brandon, Brian, Caitlin, Abigail, Asahi, June and Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Denny Nelson, two brothers and a sister.

A celebration of life will be held August 19th, at his son Michael's house on Hart Lake in Gaylord. Memorial donations in his memory can be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
