Wayne D. "Bud", "Woody" Woodruff died on April 9, 2012, at the age of 88. Wayne was born in Rapid City to Clarence & Ina (Innis) Woodruff on June 9, 1923. He was raised and lived in Mancelona most of his life. He was in the Marine Corps from 1942 till 1945, then again in 1950 for two years. He retired from the Flint Fire Department after 25 years of service. Wayne was then an electrician for many years and the rest of his years were spent as an independent house painter, following in the steps of his father. Wayne had been a member of the Genesee Masonic Lodge #174, a member of the Valley of Bay City Scottish Rite, a member of Mancelona Masonic Lodge #375 and Order of the Eastern Star, Elona Chapter #99, a member of Ingleside Lodge #1361, Ingleside, TX, and Order of the Eastern Star, Aransas Pass Chapter #162 in Aransas Pass, TX. He was an honorary member of the Bellaire Masonic Lodge #398 and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Waldo Chapter #180 in Bellaire. He had been a member of the Elf Khurafeh Shrine while he lived in Flint, Al Amin Shrine in Texas and Northwest Shrine Club of Northwest Michigan. Wayne was a wonderful, caring person and would help anyone he could. He was the best father you could ever find. He married his lovely wife Ruth, September 14, 1974. Wayne is survived by his wife, Ruth, three daughters, Glenda (Bob) Knott of Bellaire, Rhonda Speck of Columbiaville, Laurie (Don) Pfundt of Flushing, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; five step-children, Diane (Gary) Crotts of Simpsonville, SC, Pam (Eric) Putnam of Fenton, Gary (Lee) Cheadle of Suttons Bay, Karen (Spencer) Hind of West Jordan, UT, Nancy (Dennis) Buttars of South Jordan, UT. To quote Wayne, "First I wasn't, then I was, now I ain't". A Memorial/Masonic Service, open to the public, is planned for Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Mancelona United Methodist Church, corner of Hinman St. and U.S. 131. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707.
