Wayne Fae Steiner, age 95, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015, at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, Michigan. Wayne was born December 22, 1919, at the family farm on Clam Lake, Michigan, to the late William and Maude (Lingle) Steiner. On April 4, 1941, Wayne married Dolores Cleo YoungDike, his wife of 74 years who survives. Wayne is also survived by his children: Linda (Dan) Stenberg, Wayne Daniel (Ann) Steiner, and Scott (Karen) Steiner; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and one sister Jean Schoof of Bellaire. He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, one great-grandson, and five of his siblings. Wayne enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II stationed in England. After service, Wayne worked with his father in Steiner Building Service, the third generation in this firm. Steiner Building Service designed and built many area homes and cottages. Wayne was Forest Home Township Supervisor during the time at which Meadow Brook transitioned from County Farm to Medical Care Facility. He was an active member of the Bellaire Lions Club where he ran the spotlight for many minstrel shows as well as civic and school programs. Wayne built and raced boats in the Chain-of-Lakes area for many years, and was an avid fisherman/deer hunter. His family treasured the annual maple syrup he made as well as his great venison sausage. In retirement Wayne continued his lifelong interest in Bellaire Schools and their athletic events. He attended most home and away games, filling the box office for Bellaire basketball games at all levels. Visitation for Wayne will be held Monday, December 7, 2015, at Mortensen Funeral Home in Bellaire from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Bellaire United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellaire Community Schools boys and girls basketball boosters. Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
