Wanda Vranich

Wanda (Peg) Vranich, 90, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center - Long Term Care with her husband and both daughters at her side. Peg was born July 27, 1918, in Wyandotte, Michigan the daughter of Peter and Felica (Szczepankowska) Lanczynski. She was one of twelve children and spent several years of her childhood in a catholic convent following her mother's death. Peg was then cared for by her oldest brother. She was the last remaining sibling. In 1938 Peg married her husband, Mitchell, and together they lived in various communities before settling into Wyandotte. Peg worked for 15 years in manufacturing a variety of leather archery products supplied to Bear Archery and Shakespeare sporting goods. Peg and Mitch were wonderful dancers; whether ballroom, polka, or Serbian folk dances and continued that favorite activity well into their 80's. Even at their anniversary party last year, guests noticed that Peg was singing and swinging along with the recorded sounds of the Andrew Sisters. In 2006 Peg and Mitchell moved to northern Michigan. She is survived by her husband, Mitchell, with whom she celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary in July 2008. She is also survived by three children; Sylvia Walworth of Eastport, Vivian Wanless of Grosse Ile, and Michael Vranich of Detroit, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren with an eighth expected later this month. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Fr. James Barrand officiating. Internment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Twp.
