Walter J. Hufford, age 84 of Charlevoix passed away on July 16, 2018 at Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital.
Walter was born on March 22, 1934 in Petoskey to the late Paul and Eleanor (Notestine) Hufford.
Walter was born and raised in Petoskey graduated and served 4 years in the United States Army including time served in Korea. On February 18, 1956 Walter married Anna May Stanley to whom he was happily married to for 54 years. After a short time in Grand Rapids they returned to Petoskey. They then moved to Charlevoix in 1966 to raise their family. He owned and operated Hufford Industries, Inc with his brother designing and fabricating press room automation equipment. He went on to a second career as an electrician as a partner at Key Controls. Walter was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix, Lions Club and Masonic Lodge #282. He enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing and socializing with friends.
Walter is survived by his 4 children, Sandra (Bryan) Burley, Steven (Terry) Hufford, Linda Brant and Karen Hufford; 9 grandchildren, Hollyn (Ben) Harter, Kimberly (Mike) Kochanny, Paul Phillips, Todd Phillips, Jack Hufford, Sarah Hufford, Tara Hufford, David (Lindsay) Kennedy, Emily Kennedy; 5 great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Daniel and Kristen Harter, Everly and Caleb Kochanny.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix with Pastor Neil Wilson officiating. Interment will take place on Friday at Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Walter’s name may be directed to the Bergmann Center, a workshop for exceptional individuals.
