Virginia Brett Vogt Vance, 91, long-time resident of East Jordan, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at Autumn Joy Assisted Living Facility in Hayes Township.
She was born August 3, 1922 in Grand Ledge to Harrison and Blanche (Brett) Vogt.
She graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1939 and from Michigan State College in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics.
On July 12, 1942 she married Bryce Vance in Grand Ledge. They made their home on the Vance family farm in Echo Township. Bryce died July 22, 1987.
Virginia was a county extension agent and asparagus grower. She taught home economics and algebra in several area schools and was also a school librarian. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
She is survived by her brother Richard (Florence) Vogt of St. Paul, Minnesota, sisters-in-law Jane Tennant and Patricia Schloop, best friend Shelby Ziegler and many loyal nieces and nephews as well as a large group of former students. She was preceded in death by half-brothers Dale Vogt and Lynden Vogt.
The family extends special thanks to the Autumn Joy staff for their compassionate care and to Shelby Ziegler for her innumerable kindnesses.
A memorial service will be held
Saturday, May 17,2014 at 11:00am at the East Jordan United Methodist Church with Pastor Rap Posnik officiating. For those wishing to make memorial contributions the family suggests the East Jordan United Methodist Church.
