Violet H. Kleiner, (nee Groesbeck) 98 of Detroit and East Jordan, died peacefully, Friday, March 18, 2016 at THE GEORGIA HOUSE in Charlevoix, MI. She was born August 18, 1917 in Detroit, the daughter of Henry and Harriet (Wells) Groesbeck. Violet was raised and resided in Detroit until 2011 when she moved to northern Michigan to be closer to her daughter. Violet was an active member of St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church and School in Detroit. She volunteered readily with the church and enjoyed being a part of their Ladies Aide Group. She assisted with school lunches and Saturday Kids club activities. She also arranged bus trips and outings for senior church members. Violet was known as "Granny" to her family and all her friends. She enjoyed reading romances, spending time with her family and friends, eating out, and going to the casinos. She also enjoyed the Detroit Tigers and going to games, her dogs, and playing bingo at the East Jordan Senior Center. Surviving is her daughter Joyce (Walter) Marcotte, grandchildren Michelle Guthre, James (Dawn) Guthre, Shari (Joe) Shippy, and great grandson Jace Knapp. Preceding her in death is her husband Arnold, a retired Detroit Police Inspector in 1979 and grandson Walter Marcotte II in 1982. Viewing will be held from 9 to 11 am, Monday, April 4, 2016 at Woodmere Cemetery Chapel, 9400 W. Fort St., Detroit, MI 48209 with a funeral starting at 11am.
