Versile J. “Harold” Veldkamp, 83, of Ellsworth died Friday, April 20, 2018 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

He was born at home in Central Lake Township on October 29, 1934 to John and Gertrude (VanderArk) Veldkamp.

On October 19, 1957 he married Helen June Brown at Atwood Reformed Church (now Belltower). They made their home in Banks Township.

Harold served in the Army Reserves for eight years. He was employed at Manthei Development Inc. as a heavy equipment operator and aggregate foreman. He retired in 2007.

He was a life member of the Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed cutting wood, gardening and riding his four-wheeler and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his wife June; children Marla (Brian) Certa of Ellsworth, Marcia (John) Cohol of Naperville, IL, Mark (Deanna) Veldkamp of Banks Township ; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Betty Klooster of Hudsonville and Alice Doan of Grand Blanc. He was preceded in death by a daughter Manda Colbeck, brother Norman Veldkamp and sister Freda Eckerle.

Friends may call at the Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church on Monday, April 23, 2018 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Ellsworth Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. Alex Snider officiating. Burial will be in Ellsworth Cemetery.
