Versile Klooster, 95, of Banks Township died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home.

He was born March 30, 1917 in Banks Township, the son of Alex and Hattie (DeYoung) Klooster.

On March 27, 1943 he married Katherine Sitzema at the home of her parents in Banks Township. They made their home on the Klooster Farm in Banks Township.

Versile was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft mechanic in New Guinea.

He was employed at the East Jordan Iron Works for 25 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a member of Belltower Reformed Church and American Legion, Jansen-Richardson Post # 488 in Ellsworth.

Versile loved his family and enjoyed farming, gardening, playing cards, shooting pool, and mowing his lawn.

Surviving are his wife Katherine; children Ray (Carol) Klooster of Wildwood, FL, Marcia Klooster of Lake City, Jerry (Louise) Klooster of Ellsworth; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Ralph "Bud" (Laurel) Sitzema of Garden City, sisters-in-law Patricia Sitzema of Muskegon and Jennet Sitzema of Ellsworth. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter Sally Klooster; brother John Klooster and sister Julia Sage.

Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Belltower Reformed Church with the Rev. Jared VanNoord officiating. Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery, Banks Township.
