Verna Weeks

Verna M. Weeks, 79, of Alden, passed away on October 5, 2015 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Verna was born on October 29, 1935 in Mancelona, the daughter of Lloyd and Marian (Prentice) Lockman. Verna was married to Lawrence Weeks on August 9, 1952 in Mancelona then was a Warren resident for many years prior to moving back to Alden in 1989. She enjoyed making and painting china dolls. She enjoyed sharing her dolls by donating them to several charity auctions. For many years, Verna taught China Painting and Porcelain Doll Classes. Verna is survived by 4 children, Kim Bennett (Frank Waldron) of Alden, Kit (Larry) Kula of Alden, Sam (Caroll) Weeks of Traverse City, Layne (Jennifer) Weeks of Bellaire, 5 brothers, Kenneth (Brenda) Lockman, Lloyd (Bud) Lockman, Jerry (Lee) Lockman, Michael Lockman, Charles (MaryAnn) Lockman, 5 grandchildren, Matthew (Stephanie) Bennett of Alden, Lindsey Weeks (Rusty Bomhof) of Traverse City, Bradley (Amanda) Kula of Lake Ann, Kyle Weeks of Madison Heights, Hannah Weeks of Bellaire, 3 great-grandchildren, Emily and Jackson Bennett and Maisie Bomhof. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Weeks, grandson Joshua Cazel and two sisters, Marye Williams and June Griffore. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, October 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will follow in Helena Township Cemetery, Alden. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona Education Foundation, P.O. Box 586, Mancelona, MI, 49659.
