VERN H. BAUER 96, of Bellaire, died on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Vern was born on February 26, 1912 in Romeo, Michigan the son of Arthur and Mary (Kohlhagen) Bauer. Vern had resided in Bellaire since 1972 where he moved from Troy. While living in Troy for many years, he was a member of the Methodist Men's Club, was past president of the Troy Exchange Club and owned and operated a grocery store, restaurant and an antique shop. Vern was a long time member of the Alden United Methodist Church and served his country honorably in the United States Army during World War II. He is survived by two sons, Vern II (Susan) Bauer of Carlsborg, WA., Ted (Susan) Bauer of Metamora, MI., two sisters Dorothy Brewer of Fort Collins, CO., Blanch O'Dell of Cincinnati, OH., three grandchildren, Jason (Elizabeth) Bauer, Jeffrey (Jean) Bauer, Amanda (Mark) Whitney, six great grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan, Jenna, Jacob, Katelyn and Kaylee. On June 2, 1935 in Wheeling, WV., he married Elaine Padfield who preceded him in death in 2001. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Earl Padfield, Lee Padfield , two sisters Gladys Copeman and Phyllis Decker. Graveside services with military honors will take place in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alden United Methodist Church or to Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility.
