Tina Brown Slotman, 37
Tina Brown Slotman, born November 19, 1972 lost her long fought battle with breast cancer on Saturday, April 3, 2010. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Tina married Fred Slotman in September 2001 and together they lived and loved with Tina's dearest gift in life, her son Austin. Tina loved her animals and always had several. She loved camping, jewelry-making and putting together pictures of the precious children she so desperately wanted to watch grow up. She was a very generous and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and auntie. After being diagnosed in 2002 with cancer, Tina persevered and won her fight against it. However, cancer proved to be a tough and unkind opponent and after nearly five years of remission it returned. During her second go-round with cancer Tina displayed a strength and courage that was nothing short of miraculous. When God chose to welcome Tina home she was surrounded by her best friend and mother Jacie as well as her loving husband and siblings. Tina is survived by her dear friend and husband Fred; son Austin; step son Zack of Owosso, MI; her mother Jacie (DePeel) and stepfather Jim Kondrat; her father Bill Brown from Texas; Grandparents Gertrude "Nana" DePeel of Kalkaska, Tom and Janet Kondrat of Boyne Falls; brother Bill Brown (Deb) and their children William and Evelyn; brother Jimmy Brown (Bethany) and their daughter MacKenzie; mother-in-law Shirley Stanfield, sister-in-law Dawn (Tim) Skornika and son Dillon, sister-in-law Virginia Slotman (Tim), sister-in-law Robin Slotman and daughter Mariah and many other wonderful aunts, uncles and special friends. Tina is preceded in death by her grandfather, Papa (Harold) DePeel. A Memorial Gathering to celebrate Tina's life will take place on Friday April 9th 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations, to defray the medical and funeral expenses as well as provide for her son Austin, be made in care of Jim Brown, 1007 S M-75 Boyne City, MI 49712. A benefit will be held on Sunday, April 18th at the Railside Inn in Elmira at 3:00. Those looking to donate are encouraged to take part in her benefit.
