Thomas "Tim" Clagett

Thomas "Tim" E. Clagett, 95 of Charlevoix passed away peacefully on April 27, 2017 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City.

Tim was born on March 4, 1922, son of Edward and Elsie Clagett. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942-1945 training on the Great Lakes and Atlantic Ocean as a fighter pilot. Afterwards he attended the University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor Degree of Science and Engineering. He was general manager of Wickes Machine Tool and later owner of Brettrager Manufacturing Company. He was a member of the Saginaw Club and Saginaw Country Club where he served as president. He was also a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlevoix, the Charlevoix’s Men’s Chorus, Charlevoix Lions Club and CLIC.

On November 26, 1983 in Saginaw he married Barbara Oppermann and she survives him. He is also survived by his 10 children, Pat (Louis) Ognisanti of Saginaw, MI, Marcy (Mark) Flora of Austin, TX, Jane (Bruce) Laing of Dowagiac, MI, Steve Ordway of Shelby Twp., MI, Brad Ordway of Shelby Twp., MI, Jill (Brad) Burch of Walker, MI, Polly (Curt) Harding of Murfreesboro, TN, Jeff (Barb) Oppermann of Saginaw, MI, Darby Ryon of Bonita Springs, FL, Jenny (Doug) Dickerson of Wilmette, IL, daughter-in-law, Paula Clagett of Mt. Pleasant, MI, sister, Marge Dinwiddie of Charlevoix, MI 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Thomas was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Clagett, second wife, Dale Clagett, son, Ed Clagett, sisters, Sarah Arnold and Alice Preston, son-in-law, Dan Ryon and daughter-in-law, Alice Ordway.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Congregational Church, the Charlevoix Area Community Pool, Munson Hospice House at 450 Brook St. Traverse City, MI 49684 or Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at 7928 14th St. Ste. 238 Norfolk, Virginia 23505-1295.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 1pm at the First Congregation Church in Charlevoix.
