Thomas Eugene Sumner, 69, of Charlevoix, died Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Georgia House in Charlevoix. He was born October 13, 1946, in Boyne City, to Philo E. and Beatrice M. (Bess) Sumner. Tom served in the US Army during the Vietnam War stationed in Korea. On August 14, 1970, he married Judy Gennett in Charlevoix. Tom was a life resident of northern Michigan having lived in Boyne City and Charlevoix. He was a Charlevoix County Sheriff's Deputy, had worked maintenance at the Belvedere Club in Charlevoix, and retired from De-Sta-Co in Charlevoix after twenty-five years.
After retiring, Tom enjoyed working in his shop at home.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Jennifer Sumner; son, Paul Sumner (Marci) all of Charlevoix; brothers, Leroy (Pat) Sumner of Petoskey, Bob Sumner of East Jordan, Randy (Pam) Sumner of Orlando, Fla.; sisters, Darlene Braun of Texas, Roxanne Bascom of Mancelona. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Gaylee.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM, Friday, September 30, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix where Military Honors will be presented by the Charlevoix Area Veterans. Cremation will follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia House in Charlevoix.
