Thomas N. Rainey, 76, of Charlevoix, formerly of Boyne City, passed away on August 14, 2020 at his home.
Thomas was born on December 27, 1943, in Fairbault, MN, the son of Ottis and Yvonne (DeFrees) Rainey.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1962-1966. During this time, he was awarded a Purple heart.
Thomas was proud to be a Veteran and was a long time member of the Boyne City American Legion.
He was a member of the LDS Church in Petoskey and was employed by CCC for 20 years as a Tool and Die maker.
Known as “Mr. fix it”, he could solve anything if just given the time. He enjoyed camping, hunting, bee keeping and woodworking.
On January 12, 1968, in Bay City, MI, he married Susan K. Ewing who survives. Also surviving are 3 children, Aimee (Brian) Vanderark of Ellsworth, Donavan Rainey (Tina Sayles) of Vanderbilt, MI, Aaron Rainey (Jamie Rock) of Ellsworth, 2 sisters, Lynn (Bob) Koger of Ohio, Cathy Rainey of WI, 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jim Rainey.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 21 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. At 2 p.m., there will be a procession to the Ellsworth Cemetery for military honors at approximately 2:30 p.m.
No formal service will take place at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Boyne City American Legion.
