Thomas Eugene Caldwell of Birmingham, MI and Deerfield Beach, Florida passed away on November 29, 2017 in Deerfield Beach.
Tom was born in Ohio on July 28, 1932. He was a graduate of Eastern Michigan and the University of Michigan. He began his career as an educator in the Hazel Park Michigan Public School system where he served as teacher, principal and special education director. He was employed as Special Education Director in the Washtenaw Michigan Intermediate school district. He re-located to Charlevoix, Michigan in 1974 where he was employed as director of Special Education for the Char-Em Intermediate School District until his retirement in 1990. He moved to Birmingham, MI and maintained his primary residence there. Tom was a member of Congregation Shir Tikvah in Troy, Michigan and Temple Binai Isreal in Petoskey, Michigan.
Tom is survived by his wife of 28 years, Audrey Shapero; daughters, Jill (Ron) Way of Charlevoix, MI and Marla Showfer of West Dundee, Illinois; 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marlene Caldwell, daughter, Louise Houtman, brother, John Caldwell and his parents, Thomas and Juanita Caldwell.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix, Michigan.
