Theresa (Tree) Louise Shananaquet, 63 entered into the gates of her heavenly home on Tuesday June 20, 2017. Theresa died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Frankel Cardio Vascular Center in Ann Arbor, MI.
Theresa is a citizen of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians. She is a member of the Kewadin Indian Mission and a member of the Antrim Community Church. Tree worked for the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa & Chippewa Indians for 28 continuous years. Tree loved to cook for her family and friends; she loved to sing and would fill her home with her beloved hymns. Tree loved to play cards, word games, and loved to play Scrabble with her sisters. Theresa also loved to share her love of Jesus; she was a generous soul and would help anyone in need.
Theresa was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Auntie. She is survived by her children: Arissa Shananaquet, Kewadin; Marc (Toni) Shananaquet, Kewadin; Ranee (Ricky) Compo, Kewadin; Theresa (Billy Marshall) Pelcher, Rapid City; Clinton (Herminia) Pelcher III, Progresso TX; Ariana (Eusebio) Hernandez, Kewadin; Conrad Shananaquet, Kewadin. 12 grandchildren: Tyler, Marcus, Selina, Christian, Kelly, Otwen, Faith, Adan, Hannah, Quincy, Florine & William. 3 great-grandchildren: Anjali, Alexia, Eusebio Jr. Tree is also survived by her sisters: Mary (Earl) Pelcher, Mt. Pleasant; Patricia (Bobby) Poertner, Traverse City; Melissa Alberts, Kewadin; and one brother, Wilmer (Leona) Alberts Jr., Coopersville, MI; Sister-in-law, Shirley Shananaquet, Traverse City; aunts, Audry Anderson and Rita and Nancy Shananaquet. Theresa is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and cousins. Tree also loved many friends as family.
Theresa is preceded in death by her parents, Florine Alberts; Francis P. Shananaquet; her brothers; Michael Shananaquet, Martin Shananaquet; nephew, Michael Shananaquet Jr.; and her beloved Uncles.
Visitation will be held at Theresa’s home, 6805 Cairn Highway, Kewadin, MI 49648 beginning with the 7:00 p.m. wake service on Thursday, June 22, 2017 until after the Sunday wake service, her home will be open. There will be an evening wake service on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (June 22-25) at 7:00 p.m. at her home, where you may also visit the sacred fire. Theresa’s funeral service will be held on Monday, June 26, at 1:00 p.m. at the Kewadin Indian Mission Tabernacle. Burial will follow in the Kewadin Indian Mission Cemetery.
