Theola Elzinga, 88, of Atwood died Friday, October 4, 2013, at Boulder Park Terrace in Charlevoix.
She was born March 7, 1925 in Banks Township to Wesley and Hattie (Zylstra) Veenstra.
On August 10, 1968 she married Henry A "Hank" Elzinga in Atwood where they made their home. Hank died in 2005.
Theola taught first grade at Ellsworth Community School for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Atwood Christian Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, led the Ladies' Bible Study, and played the organ. She was a member of the Ellsworth Lioness Club and served as chaplain for the District. She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed crocheting.
Surviving are her step-children Rose Ann (Carl) Pott of Atwood and Bert Elzinga of Paw Paw; six step-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law George Wiersma of Jenison, nieces and nephews. Besides her husband Henry A. Elzinga she was preceded in death by brothers Paul Veenstra, Lambert Veenstra and sister Wilma Wiersma and sister-in-law Ann Roak.
Friends may call at Hastings Funeral Home on Friday, October 11, from 5 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 12, at the Atwood Christian Reformed Church with the Rev. David Kroon officiating. Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery.
