Theodore Spires

Theodore A. Spires, 89, of Kalkaska, passed away on January 26, 2015 at Grayling Mercy Manor. Ted was born on March 31, 1925 in Mancelona Township, Michigan, the son of Cassie and Cecelia Spires. Ted was employed by General Motors, Willow Run Plant in Ypsilanti for 15 years. He enjoyed gardening and helping his daughter on her dairy farm. Ted served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and also in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the Kalkaska VFW Post. He is survived by 3 children, James (Nicole) Spires of Gaylord, Diane (Jonathan) Miller of Engadine, MI, Christine Spires-Schepperly of Rapid City, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Shirley (Bill) Schnidder, Peggy (Hershal) Nunamaker, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Verna Spires, two brothers, Charlie and Harry Spires as well as his parents. A Gathering for family and friends will take place on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at the Coldsprings Christian Fellowship, 532 S. Cedar St., Kalkaska, MI, 49646. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kalkaska VFW Post. Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
