Terry Lewis, 59, went to our Lord November 5 with family and friends at his side. Terry spent his youth around North Point in Charlevoix before moving to South Haven for high school, where he held a school record in swimming. Gifted with his hands, he was the youngest person in the state with OMC certification and quickly established himself as the best marine mechanic in South Haven and then in Charlevoix. He raised his family there and in the UP, where he was a manager at Marquette Honda. Later he returned to Charlevoix to work in carpentry, where his perfectionist motto was “if you're going to do it, do it right”. An extremely generous person, Terry volunteered for Charlevoix historical society and the senior center and was happiest when he was helping others. He enjoyed all types of motor sports, owning every thing that has an engine at one time or another, and loved taking his son on the go-kart racing circuit. Terry loved camping and hiking in the UP, snowmobiling, skiing, backpacking, woodworking, and building just about anything, especially if it was for his granddaughter. An avid bible reader, his spirituality extended to his connection to Native American culture and he loved to attend pow-wows. Music festivals and concerts were his thrill, his love of music starting as a tuba player in high school. Terry was a dedicated caregiver for his parents, Jim and Karen, who preceeded him in death. He is survived by son Gordon and granddaughter Aydrah of Negaunee; brothers Mike (Pat) of Palm Bay, FL, Jim Jr. of Allegan, and Andy (Kerry) of East Lansing; and very special friend Donna Russell of Charlevoix. Contributions may be made to AA. There will be a burial service in Charlevoix in the summer.
