Susan Simmerman
Born on January 7, 1962, as an only child to Wesley and Agnes Simmerman, Sue arrived just two weeks before her parent’s 22nd wedding anniversary. A close knit family, Sue developed her love of nature, baking, gardening, and animals from her mother, and her love of automobiles from her father. Always possessing a love of learning, Sue graduated Cum Laude from Grand Valley State University and Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University.
In 1990, Sue married Julius Koenigsknecht, the love of her life. Together they supported each other and impacted thousands of students through dedicating their careers to education. They took turns building their careers… Julius’s in k-12 education and Sue’s in university education. Sue worked in the field of Career Services, working for 5 universities (including Davenport University, Aquinas College, Saint Mary’s College, Grand Valley State University, and Arizona State University) during the course of her career, educating students in how to select and achieve their career goals through teaching career classes, creating and presenting workshops, educating students on the value of internships, and working with employers to meet their recruiting needs.
Although they moved often, Sue formed life-long friendships with co-workers who became as close as family members throughout her life. In 2016, Julius and Sue were fortunate to become early retirees. Based in Prescott Valley, Arizona and having never camped a night in their lives, Sue initiated the purchase of a fifth wheel travel trailer (in reality a condo on wheels), and they spent four years traveling to over 40 states from the east to west coasts. Love of God and people ruled her life, with her most treasured roles being daughter, wife, friend, educator, and child of God. Sue entered into eternal rest February 28, 2022.
