Stephen W. Ottgen,  71, of Mancelona, passed away, on June 26, 2017 peacefully at home, on the family farm, where he was born, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on November 26, 1945, to Benjamin and Eunice (Heller) Ottgen, the youngest of 9 children.  After graduating high school, Stephen enlisted into the U.S. Air Force, where he served 7 ½ years for our country, during the Vietnam War.

While serving in the Air Force, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Anne Lund on June 16, 1967, in Cheyenne, Wyoming.  She preceded him in death in 2001.

Stephen loved hunting and watching the Detroit Tigers with his family, but most of all, he loved to work in the fields on the family farm.

He is survived by his children, Daniel (Judy) Lund of Gulliver, MI, Randy Ottgen of Mancelona, Teresa Ottgen of Manistique, MI, Danny (Kelly) Esquibel of Charleston, SC, Eunice (Troy) Kimbler of Mancelona, and Alice (Eddie) Parcia of Frankfort, MI, sisters, Patricia Homan of Mancelona, Alice (Harold) Sanford of Williamsburg, MI, brothers, Howard (Queen) Ottgen of Mancelona, and Dolph (Suzie) Ottgen of Bellaire, 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as many special nieces and nephews, and his life long best friend James (Marsha) Gee of Grand Rapids, MI.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don Ottgen, Ralph Ottgen, two sisters, Lois Ottgen and Helen Hughey.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Bryan McInerney officiating.  Military honors will follow services also at the funeral home.    Visitation will be from noon until the time of services Saturday.

Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mancelona American Legion.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
