Stephen Hicks

Stephen “Carmer” Hicks, 73, of Charlevoix, passed away August 29, 2021 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.  He was born April 9, 1948 in Lansing, the son of Carmen and Mildred (Reynolds) Hicks.

Stephen was an avid hunter and taught hunters' safety with the Michigan DNR. He was a member of the Charlevoix Rod and Gun Club and the Chief Okemos Gun Club, serving both clubs as President.  Stephen was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Charlevoix and St. Mary Catholic Church.  He was also the president of the Park City Home Owners Association in Davie, Florida. Reading was another passion of Stephens.

On June 8, 1968 in Lansing, at St. Casimir Catholic Church, Stephen married Madeline L. (Bonofiglo) Hicks who survives him.  Also surviving Stephen are three sons, Stephen L. Hicks of East Lansing, Jeffrey E. (Giovanna) Hicks of Altoona, PA, and Joseph E. Hicks of Okemos.  As well as six grandchildren, Andrew Hicks, Sarah Hicks, Ashton Hicks, Amelia Hicks, Jacob Hicks, and Allison (Michael) Eason, a brother Gregory E. (Sherry) Hicks of Holt, niece Lori (James) Marquardt and nephew Timothy (Kendra) Hicks.

Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, September 4, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlevoix with Fr. Innocent Zambua presiding.  Visitation will be Friday, September 3, from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will follow the Funeral Mass at Norwood Cemetery.
