Stanley K. Derenzy walked into the loving arms of his Lord on Monday, February 17, 2014 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
He was born July 29, 1954 at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire, Michigan to Karl and Helen (Oliver) Derenzy. He resided in Bellaire and Central Lake all his life.
Stanley attended school at the Bergmann Center in Charlevoix and graduated in 1980 from Bellaire Public School of which he was very proud. He participated in Special Olympics from 1975 to 1979 winning multiple awards in track and skiing.
Working with the animals on the Derenzy farm was great enjoyment to him. He worked in the kitchen at Meadowbrook and for Bear Paw Tackle in Bellaire.
Stanley enjoyed various crafts, mowing the lawn, shoveling snow, tending to his bird feeders, going to the Bellaire and Central Lake school games, and the daily ritual of raising the American flag.
He had a great love for his family and friends. Giving and receiving hugs was important to him. He remembered birthdays of all he met which was a great gift. Stanley had great fun going on trips, and one of the most memorable was his trip to Hawaii.
Stanley attended Grace Community Church in Central Lake and was also an usher there which was very special to him.
He is survived by his beloved mother Helen, sister Lynda (Jim) Brown, nephew Courtenay, niece Jessica, great-niece Piper, and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Friends may call at Grace Community Church in Central Lake from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19. The funeral service will be at Grace Community Church at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 20 with Pastor Max Tracey officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Southern Cemetery.
