Sophia Steiner

Sophia M. Steiner, age 95, of Rochester Hills, formerly of Bellaire, passed away peacefully on March 29 due to complications from pneumonia with her daughter, Elizabeth by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Steiner, and her sisters and brothers, Orpha McConkey, Virginia Lawder, and Robert and James Walters. She is survived by her children Larry (Kay) Steiner of Grand Rapids, Elizabeth (Tony Gramer) Pisa of Bloomfield Hills, sister-in-law, Vera Steiner of Vero Beach Florida, and several nieces and nephews. Sophia and Harry were long time residents of the Bellaire area where they owned and operated a service station and garage at Clam River, and still have many friends in the area. They moved to a senior living community in Rochester Hills in 2005, where Sophia has been active in the many activities offered there. Sophia was born and raised in southwestern Illinois, moving to northern Michigan in 1940 when she married her husband. During the war years she and her son traveled the US as she followed Harry who was in the service. A memorial service will be held at the All Seasons senior living community in April, followed by a second memorial service will taking place on Saturday, May 12 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church. Sophia will be interred at the Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire alongside her husband. Memorials may be made to The Beaumont Foundation, Beaumont Hospitals, P.O. Box 5802, Troy, MI 48007-9620. Please specify that contributions are to go to Beaumont Hospice.
