Skip Jacob Nothstine, 88, of Mancelona, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2020 at his home. He was born on August 10, 1932 in Mancelona, the son of Samuel and Clara (Olson) Nothstine.
Skip graduated from Mancelona High School in 1950, and went to work at the A&P store for a short time before enlisting in the United States Army. He served overseas during the Korean War, earning the rank of Sfc. Upon returning home, he began working at Mt. Clemens Metal Products where he met Jean Meadows, and they later wed on June 7, 1964 at the United Methodist Church in Mancelona.
Skip continued working at Mt. Clemens – which changed names many times over the years, and is most well known as DURA – for over 35 years, before retiring. He also served as the treasurer of Mancelona Township for five years. He liked hunting deer, watching Detroit sports teams, eating a good prime rib, and fishing, especially on his trips to Canada. He and Jean also enjoyed wintering is Estero, FL for over 20 years.
Skip is survived by his loving wife, Jean Nothstine; his son, Derek (Amy) Nothstine of Mancelona; sister-in-law, Helen Wilks; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Herb Nothstine; and his sister, June Robbins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00.
