Shirley Waffle

Shirley Ann Waffle, of Central Lake, passed away peacefully July 5, 2020 at the age of 80.   We have lost our loving Mother, Sister, Aunt, Cousin, and friend, as she went to her home with our Savior.

Shirley was born April 16, 1940 in Hulbert, Michigan to Martha and W. Eddie Watson.  She received her Master’s degree in Psychology and won many awards for her service and dedication.

She dedicated her life to taking care of others.  She had an Adult Foster Care home for 53 years, following in her parents’ footsteps.  She was one of the few who not only cared “for” them, but cared “about” them too.  She treated them as family, many of which had stayed in touch after her retirement.  She also cared for her parents when they could no longer manage alone.

Shirley was one of or even THE biggest fan of Elvis Presley traveling to many contests.  She was “goofy” and made us laugh.  She was an angel and a little bit of a devil.  As she would say, “WELL, for Pete’s Sakes”.   Shirley often held family events with the best “Southern cooking” you can imagine.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Richard Waffle of Central Lake, and William (Adrianne) Waffle of Alden, special grandchildren Taylor Waffle and Logan Waffle of Central Lake, sisters Sarah Bolhuis (Roger) of Ellsworth and Dawn Shannon of Central Lake.  She was also known as “Sis” and “Aunt Sissie” to close family and many nieces and nephews who will all miss her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and W. Eddie Watson and husband Richard Waffle.

Funeral services will take place Friday, July 10 at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Powers Payton officiating.  Interment will follow in Southern Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday, July 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. also at the funeral home.   Memorial contributions can be given to New Horizons Clubhouse, PO BOX 276, Rapid City, MI, 49676.
