Shirley Meyette

Shirley L. Meyette, 83, of Kalkaska passed away July 30, 2014 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. She was born April 26, 1931 in Saginaw, the daughter of Morris and Florence (Davidson) Swift. Shirley graduated in 1949 from St. Peter & Paul and in 1952 graduated from St. Mary's Nursing School. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw for 30 years. After retirement, Shirley and John moved to Torch Lake in 1985. She worked at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility from 1985 until 1993. On November 7, 1953 in Saginaw she married the love of her life, John Meyette. Also surviving are children, Helen (Phil) King of Saginaw, Ann (Steve) Albers of Bellaire, Patrick (Kim) Meyette of Saginaw, Bridget (Dan) Coleman of Dearborn, Molly (Tom) Troost of Traverse City, and Christine Meyette of Sault Saint Marie; brother, Robert (Marlene) Swift of Crystal Lake, IL; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Helen Swift. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 4, 2014 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Dale Magoon officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Visitation will be Sunday, August 3, 2014 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes and will continue on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at St. Anthony's. A graveside service will be Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Noon at St. Andrews Cemetery in Saginaw. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church.
