Shirley Marie Lowe

Shirley Marie Lowe, 91 of Bellaire went to her eternal home on Monday, January 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a devout Christian.

Shirley was born on July 11, 1931, in Caro, Michigan to Robert and Helen (Schall) McLellan. She met the love of her life Jack and they married on August 6, 1949, and started their family in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In October of 1960, Jack and Shirley along with their three kids moved to Bellaire after purchasing Dream Acre Motel (currently All Seasons Motel). During the winter's Jack would drive truck cross country and during summer would build houses. Shirley ran the motel while tending to their growing family.

In the mid-1960s, they opened Jack’s Drive-In, a food diner and ice-cream stand with curb side service (now Subway) and in 1970 they sold the motel and opened the Bellaire Coin Laundry, Dry Cleaning service and Car Wash. You could find Shirley in the back working on the dry cleaning and running the counter. Alongside of her husband Jack she operated the laundromat until they retired. Shirley loved her church. One of her greatest joys was singing in the choir. She was known for her amazing family dinners, wonderful conversations on their screen porch in the summertime, her perfectly polished nails and her beautiful yard. Shirley will be remembered for her love of family and her faith in the Lord. She will be missed dearly.

Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Justin (Cathy, Nick, and Nate) husband Jack, along with sister, Lila, brothers Allan, Gary , and John.

Surviving are her sons, Timothy (Regina); Joel (Donna); daughters, Ruth Ann and Rebecca; along with 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life is planned later this summer.

Shirley’s family would like to recognize the staff at Meadowbrook of Bellaire. Especially for the caring workers in the Orchard Hill wing whose devotion we deeply appreciate.

Arrangements are in the care of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
