Shirley Mae Etcher (Nee LaVanway), 77 of Grandville, died Apr. 1, 2016 in Wyoming, MI.

She was born on April 20, 1938 daughter of Elgin and Mae (Kenney) LaVanway and was the only sister of the 7 LaVanway brothers.

Shirley worked for the Boyne Falls Public Schools for 25 years as the business manager. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Grand Rapids as well as a former member of the Boyne City Presbyterian Church and East Jordan Presbyterian Church. Shirley was always active in church and her community by being involved in the Michigan School Business Officials, Boyne Valley Garden Club, Monday Study Club as long as Bridge Club.

On August 18, 1962 Shirley married Lyle Etcher who survives. They lived in East Jordan and Boyne City until moving to Byron Center to be closer to their grandchildren. She loved being a grandmother and spending time with them during family gatherings and during the holidays.

Shirley is survived by her husband Lyle Etcher of Grandville, children Thomas (Amy) Etcher of Grandville, Michigan and Lisa (Tony) James of Lexington, South Carolina, three grandchildren, and brothers Virgil (Sharon) LaVanway of East Jordan, Robert (Jan) LaVanway of Boyne City, and Randy (Laurie) LaVanway of Central Lake.

She is preceded in death by her parents and 4 brothers, Dennis, Donald, Dale and Richard.

Funeral services will be held Tues. April 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will be Mon. Apr. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will be in Dunsmore Cemetery, Echo Township.
