Shirley June Lanning-Begin, 86, of Mancelona, passed away on November 10, 2016 at Munson Medical Center. Shirley was born on June 14, 1930, in Grand Rapids, MI, the daughter of Phillip and Elvira (Dunham) Gildas. Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends and was a long time member of the Alden United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed RV'ing, reading, horseback riding, music, and dancing. She is survived by her husband Brian Begin, four children, Mike (Edna) Lanning of Alden, Patricia Lanning of Bellaire, Brad (Jana) Lanning of Mancelona, Carolyn Lanning of Bellaire, seven grandchildren, Rita Lanning of Alden, Melanie (Jim) Harker of Traverse City, Veronica Fleet of Alden, Randy (Melissa) Snyder of Kalkaska, Seth Lanning of Missouri, Laurelin (Chris) Martin of Byron Center, MI, Marissa Lanning of Holland, MI, Dr. Jennie Lacy of Durham, N.C., five great-grandchildren, Lilia, Ruby, Tristen, Ryan and Madelyn. She was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Mae Gildas, a daughter Harriet Lanning, her first husband Wayne Lanning, and two brothers, Bill and Jim Gildas. Memorial services will take place on Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Alden United Methodist Church with Pastor Daniel Biteman officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Chapman Cemetery, Custer Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alden United Methodist Church.
