Shirley Abbey

Shirley M. Abbey, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 24th, 2024, at her nephew’s home in Gladstone.

Shirley was born November 16, 1928, in Petoskey, MI, to Marrel and Ethel (Pond) Abbey.

Shirley resided in Charlevoix, MI for the last 30 years and previously lived in the U.P.  Shirley was a retired school teacher, who taught elementary school in Columbus, OH.  Shirley was nominated and won Elementary Teacher of the Year in 1975.

Shirley loved to garden was an avid reader and loved having her nephews and their families around.

Shirley is survived by her nephews, Mark (Janet) Johnson of Gwinn, David (Denise) Johnson of Gladstone and Ken (Georgia) Johnson of Pickford, MI.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister Barbara Johnson.

Shirley's family wishes to extend their gratitude to the OSF Home Healthcare group and the OSF Hospice group for the excellent care.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mortensen Funeral Home, Winchester Chapel of Charlevoix, MI.

The family will conduct private services at the Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, MI, later this year in the spring.
