Sherry Allen

Sherry A. Allen, 73, of Mancelona, died on November 15, 2011 at Munson Medical Center. Sherry was born on December 24, 1937 in Battle Creek Michigan the daughter of Chester and Clara Oversmith. Sherry's passing came as a shock to her family and friends. She had recently made a move to Level Acres in Kalkaska and seemed to be adjusting well and appeared to be happy. Suddenly becoming ill at her new home, she was admitted to Munson Hospital and within 24 hours she walked on at approx 8:20pm surrounded by her family. Her deep seated faith in God helped her thru the last 19 1/2 months since the passing of her beloved husband Joe. Sherry was the reigning matriarch of the JW Allen Clan for most of her life. Her guidance, sense of justice and humor will be sorely missed by all. Surviving are her sister, Jeanette Olive Comello; 5 children, Patricia Ann (Jeremy) Weatherholt of Kalkaska, Lorrie Lou (Alan) Skinner of Traverse City, Chester Wayne Allen of Mancelona, Heidi Jo (Todd) Allen-Wilkinson of Mancelona, and Todd Michael Allen of Traverse City. In addition to her children, she is survived by 9 grandchildren, Peggy, David, Taylor, John, Leann, Joseph, Sarah, Theo, and Kayla; 9 great-grandchildren, Kayleen, Dominica, David Jr., Daniel, Kaylee, Scott Jr., Connor, Tyrell, and Layla; also 2 special family members, Sonny & Nancy Timmers. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Allen in 2010, an infant son Joseph Charles Allen, and a grandson, Andrew Jahnke. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at two p.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Pastor Mark McCool will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at Antrim Church of Christ. Visitation will also take place on Saturday from one p.m. until the time of services. Interment will be on Monday, November 21, 2011 at eleven a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
