Shelley Ann DeYoung, a cherished wife, mother, Mimi, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 12, 2024, in Coopersville, MI, at the age of 60. She was born on December 17, 1963, in Holland, MI, to Ron and Helen Bakker.
Shelley leaves behind her loving husband, Tim DeYoung, and their children: Jordan (Michael Lamoreaux), Morgan (Fisher Kiteley) , Oliver (Bree Farmer), and Austen. She also leaves behind her adored grandchildren, Weston and Ava. Shelley is survived by her mother and father, four sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Shelley was deeply involved in her community, dedicating her time and energy to numerous causes. She was Co-Chair of the Sue DeYoung/Judy Edger Cancer Walk, served as Chair of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan, and contributed her leadership skills to the Charlevoix Children's House, among other community organizations and boards.
Professionally, Shelley was a cornerstone of 4 Front Credit Union for 19 years, where she served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources and Chief Operations Officer. Her dedication and expertise left an indelible mark on the organization and the lives of those she worked with.
Shelley found joy in boating, camping, and traveling to warm destinations. She cherished moments spent with her loved ones, enjoyed shopping excursions, and loved attending musicals, concerts, and sporting events. She delighted in sharing drinks and laughter with friends and family.
Shelley will be remembered for her kindness, determination, love, patience, and infectious sense of humor. Her presence brought light and warmth to all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire.
A celebration of Shelley's life will be held on June 22nd from 2:00pm-5:00pm at 9870 Murray Road in Charlevoix. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Shelley's memory to the cancer foundation at C3F.org or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwestern Michigan at bigsupnorth.org/donate.
