Memory Eternal, Sergey!
Beloved father and grandfather Sergey Nikolayevich Sizikov, 72, of Beaver Island, Charlevoix County, Michigan, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on September 4, 2024. He was born on January 1, 1952, in Tataurovo Village, Russia, the son of Nikolai and Alexandra (Pisarenko) Sizikov.
Sergey's father passed away when he was only seven, and as the oldest son, he had to take on the role as the man of the house. He graduated from Tataurovo High School, and went on to study dentistry and medical science at Chita State Medical University, Russia. Upon graduating -- the first to do so from his village -- with a Medical Degree as a DDS, he began his first job as a general dentist at the regional dental clinic in the city of Khabarovsk, Russia. He received additional training to become a specialist in Prosthodontics in 1975. He worked tirelessly for 30 years helping the people of Khabarovsk regain their beautiful smiles by replacing missing and damaged teeth, making bridges, adding crowns, and fixing damaged jaw structures. On one occasion, he even replaced the missing canine tooth of the neighbors beloved German Shephard, and lived to tell the story! When people greeted him on the street and asked "Doctor, do you remember me?", he would ask them to smile, look at their teeth, and reply "Yes, now I remember you".
On June 6, 1974, Sergey married his high school sweetheart, Liudmila, in their home village of Tataurovo. After Liudmila graduated from nursing school and Sergey graduated from medical school, they moved to Khabarovsk. In 2006, Sergey retired and they moved to the United States to be closer to their daughter and help raise their grandchild. In May of 2013, his beloved wife Liudmila was diagnosed with a terminal illness. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in June of 2014 prior to her passing shortly later that year. Sergey selflessly cared for the love of his life until her very last moment. Following Liudmila's passing, Sergey focused all of his efforts to support and care for his one and only grandchild.
He left us way too soon, but in his own perfect timing. We are comforted by the thought that he spent the last 2 years in the most beautiful and peaceful place on earth and lived doing what he loved the most; spending time with his family, gardening his special variety cucumbers, tomatoes and even sunflowers to grow and be tasty and huge "for the grandkid to enjoy," watching every European soccer championship there was (Go, Dinamo!), while rolling up his cigarettes old-school style, and taking care of his two beloved sheltie dogs and companions, Choo Choo and Zena .
Dad lived a simple, old-school life, never complained about anything, and appreciated the simple joys of life in his own quiet way. "The work is always gonna be there, make time for people in your life," he used to say. There were so many lessons we've learned from him...so much love and simple wisdom he shared with us which we will forever treasure in our hearts.
The family would like to give special thanks and express their heartfelt appreciation to BI first responders, Beaver Island EMS, Paul Welke and the Island Airways crew, as well as the Beaver Island Boat Company for their care and assistance in dad's final journey.
"Vechnaya Pahmyat" or "Memory Eternal" as they say in the old country.
Rest in peace...love you always.
Sergey is survived by his daughter Natalya (David) Clark, and his sister Nadezhda Parygeena.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his dear wife Liudmila Sizikova.
