Scott Gerald Shepherd, 55, died unexpectedly on August 1, 2019, at his home in East Jordan, Michigan. He was born on April 9, 1964, in Lansing, Michigan and grew up in northern Michigan. In 1982, he graduated from Charlevoix High School after also having attended Boyne City and Petoskey Public Schools. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Michigan State University and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Michigan. His engineering career included employment at Rouge Steel in Dearborn and East Jordan Ironworks.

Scott was an extraordinarily intelligent person and belonged to Mensa International as well as a number of professional safety organizations and local planning committees and associations. He was an avid Spartan fan and loved duck hunting, sailing, fly-fishing, cooking/grilling big meals for his friends and family, and sharing the bounty of his extensive garden. He also followed in the footsteps of his maternal grandmother as an accomplished photographer.

Scott is survived by his mother, Susan Van Wieren of Charlevoix, and his father, Gerald Shepherd of Lansing. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy (Mike) Atchison of Petoskey, and his step-sisters, Vicki Tarro, Laura (John) Proctor, and Janet (Duncan) Chamberlain, all of Sarasota, Florida, his step-brother, Gordie (Mary) Van Wieren of Okemos, and his half-brother, Ben (Molly) Fettig of Petoskey. He leaves behind many other life-long friends and loving relatives, including aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, his former spouse and friend, Ruth Music, and “The Boys” - Rocky and Riley. He is preceded in death by his other dad, Gordon Van Wieren, his maternal grandparents, Gene and Evelyn Scott, and his paternal grandparents, Roy and June Shepherd.

Family and friends will be honoring Scott’s life on September 21 at the Charlevoix Country Club. Visitation will be at 11:00 am with a memorial service at noon followed by a light lunch.
