Ruth Herrst

Ruth Elaine Rogers Herrst, 90 of Mancelona, died peacefully at home with her family by her side, Sunday, June 19, 2016.

She was born March 25, 1926 the daughter of Charles and Annie Marie (Rogers) Linwood in Cleveland, Ohio. She moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan and in May of 1947 she married Albert Joseph Herrst. They moved to Howell in 1960 where they raised 5 wonderful children, Vernon, Theodore, Ronald, Linwood (Bert), and Cheryl. In 2006 Ruth and Cheryl moved to Mancelona.

Ruth was extremely proud of being one of the first female pony jockeys in Ohio and graduating from Eastern Michigan University.

She was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed gardening, and watching wildlife. She had a deep love for her family and loved to take care of them and their pets too.

Ruth was the grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert in 2001, her daughter Cheryl in May of 2016, and her granddaughter Jennifer in 2013.

A family celebration will be held. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local hospice or Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
