Russell Dawson

RUSSELL "POPS" DAWSON, 91, of Mancelona, died on Thursday, August 13, 2009 at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility. Pops was born on July 8, 1918 in Bellaire, the son of Fred and Izora (Miller) Dawson. He was a resided in Allegan, MI., for over 30 years before moving to Mancelona in 1989. He worked for Moeke Lumber in Mancelona for several years and was known for his tinkering. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On Jan. 3, 1952 in Pontiac, MI., he married Erma Woods who survives. Also surviving are 7 children, Donna Irelan of Tenn., Mary Ann Young of Allegan, David Dawson of Allegan, Joy (Joe) Stevens of Sault Sainte Marie, , Kelly Dawson of Mancelona, Sherry (Randy) Lockridge of Allegan, Cindy (Roy) Byrd of Wayland, 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were 5 sisters, a brother and his parents. A graveside service will take place on Friday, Aug. 21, at 1 pm at Fairview Cemetery, Mancelona.
