Roy J. Oliver, 55, of Bellaire, passed away on October 12, 2016 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. Roy was born on October 31, 1961, in Detroit, the son of John and Elizabeth (Shaw) Oliver. Roy was in Restaurant Management for many years. His career started in the Detroit area where he worked for the Renaissance Club, the Radisson Hotel restaurant, then moved north to Bellaire in 1995 and began working for Shanty Creek Resort then on to the Pelican Inn in Central Lake and most recently the Pelican Nest in Bellaire. Roy moved north to Antrim County in 1995 because he loved nature and the outdoors. He loved fishing and was a bow hunter. However, you could often find him simply taking walks in the woods and enjoying nature around him. Roy was a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His smile and kind nature will never be forgotten. He is survived by his mother Elizabeth Oliver of Royal Oak, MI, a brother Gordon (Micha) Oliver of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., a sister Karen Vernon of San Tan, AZ as well as 5 nieces and nephews and 5 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father John earlier this month, both sets of his grandparents as well as an aunt Dorothy Dimmitt. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Viewing will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. also at the Central Lake Chapel. An additional Celebration of Life will follow the funeral service at the Pelican's Nest, from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grass River Natural Area, P.O. Box 231, Bellaire, MI, 49615. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
