Rosalynde Janet Franklin

Rosalynde “Janet” Franklin (Webb), 86, of East Jordan, Michigan, peacefully passed away on March 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. A beloved mother, grandmother (Guppy), and friend, Janet, or “Jan,” will always be remembered for her deep love of family and friends. She was known for always answering the phone, no matter the time or circumstance, ready to offer a listening ear or words of support.

Born on July 14, 1938, in Saint Elmo, Illinois, Janet was the cherished only child of Annabelle and Frank D. Webb. She spent her childhood days at their family cottage off Hemingway Road, and every time Janet rode the Ironton Ferry, she would point toward the cottage nestled between the trees, reminiscing fondly about those times. Janet graduated from Ferris State University and spent many years working with Goldsmith Well Drilling.

Janet was a passionate and active member of her community. She served for many years on the East Jordan Library Board and was involved with the Circle of the Arts and the Rainbow Shop. She had a love for sports, particularly for the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers. When she wasn't cheering for her teams in Detroit, she enjoyed attending games of the Traverse City Beach Bums. Janet’s love for life and sports was matched only by her love for her family, who were the center of her world.

She is survived by her daughter, Jill Franklin, her son, Earl Scruggs, her grandchildren, Kahsandra Williams, Malika Ruiz, Kayla Baker, Justin Scruggs, Valerie Scruggs, Joey Scruggs, and Isiah Scruggs, as well as her adored great-grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her beloved significant other, Norman Kailing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Annabelle and Frank D. Webb, and her grandson, Johnathan Scruggs.

A celebration of life will be held in June, Janet’s favorite time of the year. Additional details will be shared in the coming weeks, and those seeking more information are encouraged to contact the family.
