Roland Paul Weyand, Jr.
Age 86 • Vero Beach, FL and Charlevoix, MI
On Monday, July 22, 2024, Roland Paul Weyand, Jr. (Puma) passed away peacefully in Horton Bay, Michigan, at the age of 86. He is survived by his wife, Jessie (née Gillies); daughter, Heather Weyand. Sister, Barbara Link; nephew and his wife, Paul and Sheila Link; niece, Julia Link; sister-in-law, Julie Weyand; nephew, Justin Weyand; niece and her husband, Meggan and Jeffrey Midbo; and many much-loved in-laws and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Marion Weyand, and his brother, Richard Louis Weyand.
Born on November 4, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, Paul was the middle of three siblings. He graduated from Culver Military Academy, where he was a member of the Black Horse Troop and the varsity golf team. At his 50th reunion, when asked what Culver meant to him, he reflected by saying “Discipline combined with good habits will allow success to be a part of one's life." This discipline continued through his education at the University of Michigan, where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Literature, Science, and Arts degree. He was a member of the golf team and the Sigma Chi Fraternity.
After graduating, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Following his service, he returned to Detroit and joined Eynon-Weyand & Associates as a manufacturers' representative, where he formed many long-term friendships with colleagues at Ford and General Motors. He held several patents for innovative ideas related to the automotive industry.
Paul and Jessie were married in Ottawa, Canada, on May 1, 1965. They lived in Birmingham, MI, and Vero Beach, FL, spending summers at their cottage in Horton Bay, MI. Paul continued his love of golf throughout his life, along with skiing, boating, and fishing. He also loved flying, earning his pilot's license in the late 1960s, flying himself and others to their northern cottage.
If someone didn’t know who Paul Weyand was, they surely knew who Puma was. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Paul’s life will be celebrated on Friday, September 20, 2024, from 4-6 PM at Birmingham Country Club.
