Roger Kent, 65, of Bellaire passed away on June 21, 2019. He was born on April 23, 1954 to Fred & Lois (Mills) Kent in Lansing, MI.The family moved to the great up north in 1966. Roger attended and graduated from Bellaire High School in 1972, where he met the love of his life, Theresa Hoalt.
After high school Roger worked as a contractor building many homes in the area. He married Theresa in 1977 and transitioned into working on the oil rigs as the couple were blessed with son Andrew (34). Soon before the family of three welcomed daughter Kathleen (29), Roger transitioned into working for Lamina where he devoted over 25 years.
Roger spent (and sometimes even enjoyed) countless hours at soccer, baseball, football, and/or basketball games along with cheerleading competitions, band concerts, highschool plays and musicals supporting his kids. Roger always wanted better for not only them but their peers. It is that wish that guided him to serve on the Bellaire School Board. With a background in construction, Roger was instrumental during the building of the new school.
Roger was a man of many hobbies from dirt bike racing in his younger years to the leisure motorcycle trip around Lake Superior that he took with his wife Theresa. He had a passion for skiing both downhill and cross country and even attempted the White Pine Stampede once (which “almost killed him” in his words). Roger enjoyed gardening, summer days on the boat and summer nights on the back patio with a bonfire. Roger also loved his horses, probably just as much as his kids. Anyone who knew Roger could probably guess his favorite activity - harassing and teasing his children, nieces, nephews, their friends and anyone who could be an easy target. This ridicule was abundant when both of his children decided to “ruin their bodies” with tattoos. That is until the second love of his life was born, his granddaughter Stella Grace Kent (3). The bond between the two was unbreakable and he soon decided to get his first tattoo, “Stella Grace” directly above his heart. Roger was quick to show off his new ink and tell this story to anyone who would listen.
In addition to his wife, children, and granddaughter, Roger is survived by his mother, sisters Shelley Fredrickson of Silver Bay, MN and Sherry Kent of Granby, CO and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Roger was preceded in death by his father.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the family home in Bellaire on August 10th, 2019 from 1pm - 4pm.
